Old School vs New School
One of the things that I am always coming across is the differences in oppinion between old school ‘christian’ rules and todays ‘christian’ rules.
Traditionally people got tattoos when they were joining cults or when they were slaves. Now days things have changed dramatically and the meaning of tattoos have changed from - belonging to something/someone -to- being more of a “hobby” sort of thing to do. In saying that, not everything about tattoos has changed.
There are still people going around saying that it is ‘sinful’ and that getting tattoos is ruining the temple that is our body. Generally it is christian people that are found to be saying that and that is what annoys me. Me, being a christian myself, do not agree with that at all. I do not, in any way, think that getting tattoos is sinful. My older brother is at uni learning how to be a pastor/preacher/minister (whatever your definition for it is) and he has tattoos, I have plenty of friends who have tattoos that are the most dedicated christians I know. AND I also know of pastor/preacher/ministers that are doing the lords work and are COVERED in tattoos. Now if God looked down upon us that much for getting tattoos surely all of us would be punished for it, not have a successful and close journey with Him!
Sure, we are supposed to be keeping our body pure -but- I dont think that getting tattoos on our skin is (or should be) classed as an impurity.
As the saying goes “If the body is a temple, why not decorate the walls?”
I believe that God wouldnt mind us decorating things up a bit for Him :)
